Arsenal and Uruguay midfielder, Lucas Torreira's mother, Viviana Di Pascua, has died following a battle with Covid-19.
Torreira's 53-year-old mother was recently admitted to intensive care after contracting the virus in Uruguay.
Torreira was granted special permission by Atletico Madrid, where he is currently on loan, to fly home to Uruguay to see his mother after learning she had tested positive.
But her situation deteriorated and she died on Tuesday March 30.
Torreira himself tested positive for Covid in November 2020 after international duty with Uruguay after an outbreak of the virus within the Uruguay camp at the time.
