Delta State Government Declares Total Lockdown for Coronavirus



The Delta Sate Government has declared total lockdown for coronavirus. This comes as a bid to stop the virus from entering into the state. Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has also announced the shutdown of all activities in the state including closure of all borders.

The Delta State Government says the total lockdown of coronavirus pandemic is for the good of the his people to ensure safety health wise. He said this while addressing the state in a state-wide broadcast in Asaba that the lockdown will take effect from Wednesday 25, march and the closure of all borders will commence at 6.am on Sunday 29, March.
   

He explained that although there are no confirm case in the state but preventive measures need to be taken to avert any outbreak and to contain its spread in case it happens.   Governor Ifeanyi Okowa who heads the post of the Chairman of the Central Committee on Managing and Containing the Coronavirus Pandemic in Delta has also shut down the Asaba Airport from 6.pm on Friday 27, March.

He further says that all business, malls, supermarket, shops, offices and market are to be closed and all residents in the state are to stay at home from Wednesday, April 1, 2020.

Food sellers can conduct their business within the premises of their homes and are also required to strictly adhere to the social distancing law.

Deltans should note that there will be increment of security personnel on the streets and land borders to ensure effective compliance on this directive.

He said that the restrictions will continue for two weeks and will not apply to persons providing essential services like Security, Health Care "Pharmacies are to remain open", Fire, Water, Power , Media Houses and Telecommunications companies.

He also include that officials of the agencies and companies that are affected must move with valid identification tags for easy identification and smooth passage.

All Deltans are to adjust to the new order and comply with the Government and law enforcement agencies.

Radical as these measures may seem, they are for our own safety. At the same time, we must keep on praying to God to have mercy on us and to save us from the dangerous effects of this global pandemic,” he added.
