Obama, his wife & daughters leave for summer vacation (Pics)

US president Barack Obama, his wife Michelle Obama, their daughters Sasha and Malia and the two first pets, dogs Bo and Sunny, left the White House on Saturday and arrived in Massachusetts via Air Force One for their annual summer vacation on Martha's Vineyard.
The Obamas are scheduled to stay there for 17 days, enjoying their private time.

Okada riders in Bauchi protest against the introduction of ID cards by their union (photos)

According to an eyewitness, Okada Riders in Bauchi state are currently protesting against the Introduction of Identity Cards by their union. Each ID card would reportedly cost N3,500 and commercial bike riders in state are against it. See more photos from the protest after the cut...

Man charged with manslaughter after forgetting his twin daughters in a hot car

These 16-month-old twin girls Ariel and Alaynah North (pictured) died after their 24-yr-old father Asa North left them in an extremely hot car in 90-degree temperatures outside their Georgia home. The girls were found unresponsive while strapped in their car seats in the back of his SUV. According to Police, their father had been drinking before leaving his toddlers in the car when he got home.

Ekweremadu to Deliver U.S. Constitution Day Lecture

The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, will deliver the 2016 edition of the United States of America (USA) Constitution Day Lecture entitled the “Influence of the U.S Constitution on African Democracies”.
This was announced by the U.S Law Library of Congress, the organisers of the annual event, at the weekend.

Venus Williams crashes out in first round of singles tennis in Rio

Four-time gold medallist, Venus Williams yesterday crashed out of the Olympic tennis tournament in Rio, losing to Belgium's Kirsten Flipkens 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7/5) in a three-hour centre court marathon.
"She had been ill for a few days with a bad virus. She had an upset stomach and she was coughing up a lot, you could see she was really struggling,' said US captain Mary Jo Fernandez, who faced the media in Williams' place.
This is the first time in her career that Venus will lose in the opening round. She's said to be suffering with a virus and was heard coughing during the match. She will now play in the doubles with Serena.
