Ahead of 'Star Wars' 40th anniversary, Japanese jeweler Tanaka Kikinzoku
has unveiled a 24 karat gold sculpture of Darth Vader, one of the
fictional character in the Star Wars franchise.
According to Japan Times, the 15kg (33 pounds) statue of the iconic sci-fi villain will sell at a hefty $1.4 million and will be available to purchase in Japan on May 4, being the 'Star Wars' Day.
The glowing gold helmet is currently on display at the jeweler’s main store Tokyo’s Ginza shopping district.
The jeweler also plans to release gold coins specially designed to
celebrate the anniversary in the more affordable price range of $1,200
to $11,000 (about R15,9k to R145,9k).
Over the years, Tanaka has created other gold commemorative products
including a Christmas tree, samurai helmets and a replica of footballer
Lionel Messi's left foot.
