Many traders in the market abandoned their stores when they sighted the man's lifeless body. It was learnt that his neck was held by a piece of cloth tied to the ceiling of the sawmill.
The corpse of the man, whose identity could not be ascertained, was seen hanging from the ceiling of a sawmill on Friday morning.
According to The Punch, the man did not leave a suicide note, but some loaves of bread were found at the spot where he hanged himself.
Some of the residents were said to have expressed shock over the incident because the late man was not a familiar face in the area.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Theodore Okafor, confirmed the incident. He described it as a suspected case of suicide.
He also said that the corpse had been deposited in a mortuary for autopsy, adding that investigation had commenced.
The Police officer advised Nigerians not to take dangerous steps because of the current hardship.
He added, “Before now, things were easy for everybody. So, this difficult situation will also pass by and a good condition will still come back. So, why should people commit suicide?”
