The LASEMA Response Unit (LRU) launches

On Friday 15th July 2016, a good Lagosian called the Toll Free Emergency Line 112 to report an emergency situation about a container loaded with powdered milk that fell on a Ford Edge SUV at Toyota bus stop, Oshodi - Apapa Expressway. The LASEMA Response Unit (LRU) Team swung to action immediately. LASTMA officials and the Nigeria Police Force were also at the incident scene to ensure effective recovery operation.

Investigation carried out by the LRU team at the incident scene revealed that the loaded container fell on the Ford Edge SUV with registration number JJJ 283 DE as a result of busted tyres and crowded tankers parked on the road side.

The incident did not claim any life as the driver of the Ford Edge SUV was rescued and unhurt from the incident but was taken to the hospital to ensure there were no internal injuries as he was the only occupant of the vehicle.

The LRU team recovered the vehicle from beneath the container and towed it to a safe place. A second LRU team returned to the scene later in the day to complete the recovery operation. The fully loaded container was towed off the road by an LRU fork lift and goods worth millions of naira were salvaged due to this intervention.
