Jamb New Policy/ Rule on Eligibility of Candidates for 2015/2016 Admission for Undergraduates

There is a new policy by jamb. The information is reaching us that the University of Lagos, while announcing her 2015 Post Utme details, claimed that there is a new JAMB policy whereby candidates of the most sought-after universities in the 2015 JAMB UTME are reassigned to other universities with lower number of candidates than their capacities. Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike also published a similar notice.

According to the notice, JAMB registrar, Professor Dibu Ojerinde stated that the new policy portends two benefits:

1) It will be beneficial to “needy Universities” that is universities with lower number of candidates than their capacities, as this will ensure that these universities will have more candidates to admit.
2) Candidates will have better chances for admission in the universities they are re-assigned to, contrary to situations where they would await admission in the universities of their first choices until the admission exercise closes and they forfeit admission in that session.

What this means is that even some candidates who scored 200 or above but chose universities with surplus applicants may be re-assigned to other universities with lesser number of aspirants.

This policy has been implemented with immediate effect. Consequently, the eligibility for Post-UTME screening in the University of Lagos like other universities in Nigeria has been determined by JAMB. In effect, only candidates whose names were forwarded to the University of Lagos by JAMB are eligible for the 2015/2016 post-UTME screening.

As for me I don’t like the idea of jamb choosing for students which university to apply into. They should have instead make it open for students to apply for post utme into any universities of their choice despite the ones they chose (first choice) during their jamb registration.

Jamb should remember that after choosing universities for students they won’t pay their school fees. Or maybe they intend to.

They didn’t even carry the masses along before enforcing this rule. Too bad if you ask me!

What’s your say on this?
